About the Neuronal Mechanism of Lateral Hypothalamic Self-Stimulation Response

چکیده

The experimental part of this study has shown that hunger motivation may be evoked by a long-term (10-180 s) continuous electrical stimulation of the "hunger center" at a current of 133.6±8.1 μA. Positive emotions were caused by electrostimulation at the same current intensity but short-term duration (0.3-0.5 s). A positive feeling elicited by electrostimulation of the motivation center can be explained in terms of the adaptation (polarization) theory of motivation and emotion (Murik, 2001, 2005).

Effect of phasic electrical locus coeruleus stimulation on inhibitory and excitatory receptive fields of layer V barrel cortex neurons in male rat

Introduction: It is believed that Locus Coeruleus (LC) influences the sensory information processing. However, its role in cortical surround inhibitory mechanism is not understood. In this experiment, using controlled mechanical displacement of whiskers we investigated the effect of phasic electrical stimulation of LC on response of layer V barrel cortical neurons in anesthetized rat. Methods: ...

Effect of sensory deprivation and Locus Coeruleus (LC) electrical stimulation on the response properties of layer IV barrel cortex neurons in male rats

Introduction: Barrel cortex of rodents is responsible for sensory information processing from muzzle whiskers. Locus coeruleus (LC) as the main source of norepinephrine (NE) in the cortex, is effective on the sensory information processing. Methods: Rats were divided to 2 groups. One group underwent sensory deprivation (P4) and the other group served as control and did not undergo sensory d...

Effects of Dopamine Depletion in the Nucleus Accumbens on Lateral Hypothalamic Self - Stimulation in the Rat

Effects of Dopamine Depietion in the Nucleus Accumbens on Lateral Hypothalarnic Self-Stimulation in the Rat. Keiji Oda Considerable evidence implicates dopamine in brain stimulation reward. For example, dopamine antagonists or destruction of dopaminergic neurons reduce the reward effectiveness of medial forebrain bundle stimulation. Assessment of such effects is . complicated by across-subject ...

Neurogenic regulation of coronary blood flow: evidence for a central nervous system pathway.

The central representation of neurogenically mediated coronary vasoconstriction produced by activation of the sympathetic nervous system was examined in anesthetized cats instrumented for continuous recording of coronary and femoral blood flows, arterial pressure, and heart rate. Electrical stimulation in a small region of perifornical lateral hypothalamus increased arterial pressure, heart rat...

–Neuronal expression of Fos, the protein product of the immediate early gene c-fos has been used as a high resolution metabolic marker for mapping polysynaptic pathways in the brain. We used Fos immunohistochemistry to reveal neuronal activation following self-stimulation of the ventral pallidum. Four groups of rats were allowed to self-stimulate for 30 min with 0.4 s trains of cathodal rectang...
